BREAKFAST WITH BARBARA AND JOHN

Hi Pat

I know I speak for most everyone in saying what a great time we all had.

Of all the re-unions I went to this was by far the best for me. Theresa and I thank all who made this event happen. What an unusual group of friends. May God bless us all as we get older. Thanks again

Bill & Theresa Luker

Pat,

First of all; excellent teamwork, A WOW WEBSITE, another great event of the lives of those '57ers and now there are more photos to share with all. We regret all may not have been able to attend and may we pray for them, but for those that did not want to attend that is another story - "sticks in the mud"!

It appears like we will have another reunion in Florida someday, many were talking about next year and some were saying every two years. I went to bed on Friday and Saturday evening with constant grins on my chubby face; why, because we all had an absolute ball; spouses included.

It was so special that with the small group and the informal setting, everybody got a chance to talk to everybody else that was there; old friendships renewed and new ones started. It was interesting to see what direction peoples lives took and the importance of all coming for the reunion as if no time had passed.

Connie, thanks for doing the baskets. It is sitting on our counter-what a great remembrance.

We'll be setting up an album with the pictures with the names of all before we forget, the invitations that Pat made with comments on the memories of our special weekend.

Luv,

Fran and Dan

What a great time,  Thanks to all of you that worked on this. Great idea to have a reunion combined with a 3 day vacation on the gulf coast of Fla. Meeting everyone for the first time in 50 years was amazing.Although I didn't regonize anyone at first,( thank god for the name badges), it didn't take long for us to kid around and bust on each other like 50 years ago. Mentally we went back to the 50's for 3 days. It was great !  special thanks to Connie, Pat, Dan C.,Claire & Timmie, putting all this together. There was talk of doing this again over the next year or two. count us in.

Thanks to all who attended. I am pretty sure everyone had a great time & enjoyed the casual atmosphere.

Marcia and Tony, I don't know if you had planned to be the "caterers" but you sure did a fine job of juggling all those nibbles. Thanks for putting up with it.

Brave spouses, we are so happy that you joined us, your crazy other halves. You made us complete.

Danny, Bob, Sylvia, we are so glad you've surfaced! I hope you stick with us. Skip, our prayers go out to you and your sweet Marilyn for her to get better soon.

More prayers for a speedy recovery for Bill Borrow who went kicking and screaming into surgery instead of to his reunion. Go Bill!!

Sorely missed were Mr. & Mrs. Stilo, who called several times but could not attend because of Mrs. Stilo's knee surgery. Speedy recovery to you! Also missed were Miss Price who called, Muggsie, Roy Crosby (you rat), Bill and Sheila Braddock, Dominik, Judy Kelley, Judy Hale, Judie Boettger, Dave Kent, Lester, Ginnie Apgar,Doug Austin, Theresa Butrico, Judiann Cairns, Dee Carovillano, Marian Friedman, Johnny and Pat Buczyk, Rocco Collora, Ann Graham, Jimmy Smith, Bill Colucci, Donna Grego, Loretta Hibbard, Betty Phillips, Red Dardzinski, Pat Orrico, Roger Mooney, Bob Peters, Pete Seiler, Tom Sumoski, Allen Tandyrak, Spaz and our other "lost classmates". Pat, Thanks again for all you did to make this reunion a success.  The badges were great and the booklets were a keeper

You looked so great and still could sit on your legs like you did in school.  I can remember what an up person you were and still to this day continue to  express a great personality.

The photos are great and I enjoyed so much growing young with the others.

I appreciate all of your efforts and those who you worked with to make this reunion a wonderful experience. If it were not the persistence of claire maggs and the constant correspondence from her I would have been one of those who was not able to attend such a wonderful weekend. I also want to thank connie, Marcia, timmie and gang for all they did to make this a wonderful get together.

My wife Ellie thanks everyone for making her feel part of the class and our extended lives.

BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO...

SAYING GOODBYE...DANNY AND BILL

10.11.07

Dear Members of the SPHS Class of '57,

We are totally unable to attend your Sunshine Soirée, and that fact makes me so very, very sad. My wife, Virginia is due to have a knee replacement three days before your reunion and she will be hospitalized until the 27th of October. Following the surgery, she will be confined for a week or more for rehabilitation. I consider the coincidence most unfortunate.

In an earlier note from Pat Spalluto Shapiro, Pat wrote that I was one of your favorite teachers, followed by the question, "we know WE were your favorite class, right?" How right she is: Right, right, right, a thousand times.

After I graduated from Franklin and Marshall College following my stint as an aviation cadet (navy) during World War II, I began my career as a teacher at Merchantville High School on the New Jersey side of the Delaware River, directly across from Philadelphia. I taught there for five years. While there, South Plainfield, where I grew up, was planning its FIRST High School, and I decided to apply for a position.

What a thrill that was. I, of course, was one of the many kids who went daily by bus to North Plainfield. The wonderful part of going to NPHS was that I met the girl I would eventuqally marry. We now have been married for 61 years (I assume most of you wonderful students of mine are now 67 years old. Am I right?)

I could not believe that your class of 67 students were the top class in the new high school for four years, and that I taught all of you twice as eleventh and twelfth graders. I thought I had died and gone to Heaven after the large home rooms and English classes I had at my first school. Your class of sixty seven students divided into three classes averaging 22 per class. My former classes averaged 32.

After teaching you wonderful students for your junior and your senior years, I also became your senior advisor and had much to do with your senior trip, your senior play and your graduation as the first senior class from SPHS. Wow!! I also asked the principal to put all of you into one large homeroom so that when we were planning your senior events each announcement was heard by all. The principal thoought I was crazy to ask for a homeroom of 67 kids, but I finally convinced him. I state all of these details as a direct answer to Pat's question as to whether "youse guys" were my favorite class. I never had to speak a harsh word to anyone. We were so close and so friendly that it really was the most enjoyable experience of my entire career as a teacher. I will never forget that experience with all of you. I even wonder if any teacher anywhere has ever had as wonderful an experience.

Sincerely,

Len Stilo

of SOUTH PLAINFIELD

PS

I left South Plainfield for Bridgewater only because the Board of Ed. did not understand my later workload as chairman of two departments and teacher of three classes of English at B-RHS. I had only the English dept and one class.

PPSI also attended NPHS as a student with five or six of your SPHS teachers: Harry Lobby, Al Ranger, "Weeze" Wyckoff and two others.
